What is Dragonfyre?

Cisco's Fantasy Medieval RPG [Dragonfyre] is the sequel to Cisco's Ultimate medieval RPG pack. It stays on the mature Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge ecosystem while adding a new story era, class choices, skill progression, custom equipment, bosses, dimensions, structures, and more than 300 quests.

This is a server-friendly RPG rather than a loose collection of fantasy mods. Players have shared objectives, combat roles, and places to explore together. If your group likes the guided progression of Prominence II but wants a Forge-based medieval pack with a stronger co-op adventure identity, Dragonfyre is a useful alternative.

Current Version and Java

CurseForge lists Dragonfyre 3C Beta as the current Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge client release, uploaded August 18, 2026. A matching 3C Beta server pack was uploaded the same day. Use that pair together.

Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge packs normally run on Java 17. Do not copy the Java 21 setting from newer 1.21.1 packs or Java 25 from Minecraft 26.1. Check our Minecraft Java version guide if the host has several runtime options.

Dragonfyre RAM Requirements

ModReady's current modpack catalog assigns Dragonfyre an 8 GB baseline. That is appropriate for a normal friend server, while larger groups and heavily explored worlds benefit from more headroom.

Small Party

2-4 players

Start at 6 GB

Co-op Server

5-10 players

Recommended: 8 GB

Community World

10+ players

Plan for 10-12 GB

Exploration is the main server load early on. Later, entities, bases, and player-built systems matter more. Fast single-core CPU performance and SSD storage are as important as the memory number.

Quick Setup with ModReady

  1. Choose Standard+ for the recommended 8 GB RAM.
  2. Select Ciscos Fantasy Medieval RPG Dragonfyre in the modpack picker.
  3. Choose the region closest to your co-op group.
  4. Confirm that the selected client release matches the server's 3C Beta branch.
  5. Keep automatic backups enabled before future pack updates.

Dragonfyre already exists in ModReady's pack catalog, so the setup uses the normal pack selection flow. The catalog also records the correct 1.20.1 Forge branch and 8 GB recommendation.

Self-Hosting Dragonfyre

  1. Install 64-bit Java 17. Verify it before using the server start script.
  2. Download the Dragonfyre 3C Beta server pack from the official CurseForge page.
  3. Create a clean server directory. Do not merge it with Cisco's Ultimate, Lite, or an older Dragonfyre version.
  4. Run the included Forge installer or start script and let it create the required files.
  5. Accept the EULA by setting eula=true.
  6. Open port 25565 if you host from home, then restart and wait for world generation to finish.

Every player should install Dragonfyre 3C Beta through the same launcher source. The server pack is not a client installation, and the regular client archive is not a reliable substitute for the server pack.

Multiplayer and Performance Tips

Choose complementary classes

A co-op group gets more value when players cover different combat and support roles instead of building identical characters.

Pre-generate around the starting area

Dragonfyre rewards exploration. Pre-generating a reasonable radius reduces terrain spikes when the whole group leaves spawn together.

Schedule major boss sessions

Shared boss runs keep quest progression aligned and avoid half the group discovering important content while everyone else is offline.

Treat updates as milestones

Dragonfyre is still labeled beta. Back up the complete world and server configs before changing pack versions.

Common Dragonfyre Server Issues

  • Missing mods or failed handshake: the client and server are on different Dragonfyre versions. Reinstall the exact 3C Beta pair.
  • Crash during startup: verify Java 17 and remove files left over from another Cisco pack or older server folder.
  • Players are kicked during modded movement: set allow-flight=true.
  • Lag while exploring: lower view distance, pre-generate common routes, and use a profiler before adding RAM.
  • Quests or progression differ between players: confirm the same client pack version and avoid manually replacing quest/config files on a live server.
