Minecraft 26.1 Tiny Takeover Is Live — Server Update Guide

Tiny Takeover Is Live

Minecraft 26.1, officially named Tiny Takeover, released on March 24 and is available now for both Java and Bedrock editions. This is the first game drop of 2026 and it delivers a complete overhaul of every baby mob in the game.

If you run a server, there are critical technical changes you need to know about before updating. Here is everything that shipped and how to get your server ready.

Baby Mob Overhaul

Every baby mob in Minecraft has been completely redesigned. They are no longer just scaled-down versions of adults — each one now has unique textures, proportions, animations, and sounds.

Baby wolves, kittens, piglets, calves, chicks, ocelots, lambs, and rabbits all received custom models with chunkier proportions and distinctive one-pixel eyes. The level of detail is impressive and adds genuine personality to the game.

New Baby Mobs

Two entirely new baby mobs join the game:

  • Goat kids — baby goats with their own animations and behaviors
  • Foals — baby horses, donkeys, and mules, including skeleton and zombie horse variants

Golden Dandelion

The Golden Dandelion is a new item crafted with 8 gold nuggets surrounding a dandelion. Using it on any baby mob keeps that mob young forever — it will never grow up. This is perfect for building collections of baby animals or creating themed builds.

Other Changes

  • Craftable name tags — paper plus any metal nugget. No more dungeon chest hunting just to name your pets
  • Copper trumpet — a new note block sound using copper
  • Performance and lighting improvements under the hood

Critical Server Requirements

This update includes major technical changes that affect every server:

  • Java 25 is now required — older Java versions will not work
  • Default RAM raised to 4 GB — up from the previous 2 GB default
  • Generational ZGC is now the default garbage collector, replacing G1GC. This should reduce lag spikes on busy servers

Server Update Steps

  • Step 1: Back up your world, configs, and plugins/mods
  • Step 2: Update your Java runtime to Java 25 (OpenJDK 25)
  • Step 3: Download and install the new 26.1 server jar
  • Step 4: Test on a staging environment before going live

Mod Loader Status

NeoForge and Fabric both need time to release stable builds compatible with 26.1. If you run a modded server, do not update immediately — wait for your mod loader and key mods to confirm 26.1 support. Expect stable loader builds within a few weeks of release.

What This Means for Server Owners

Vanilla and lightly modded servers can update now. The Java 25 requirement is the biggest change — make sure your hosting environment supports it before switching.

For heavily modded servers, hold off until your mod loader and pack are updated. The new Generational ZGC garbage collector is a genuine performance improvement that should reduce TPS drops during peak activity.

ModReady servers are already running Java 25 with optimized ZGC settings. If you host with us, your infrastructure is ready — just update your server jar from the control panel when you are ready to make the switch.
