Top 10 Minecraft Modpacks to Play in May 2026

May 2026 Modpack Rankings

May has been the busiest modpack month of 2026 so far. StoneBlock 4 dropped on May 6 and immediately pulled players off ATM10. The Cursed Walking got a major content update on May 11 and is the defining survival-horror pack of the year. Homestead climbed into the top 10 thanks to a steady stream of cottagecore content updates. And Prominence II shipped its biggest patch ever on May 11. Meanwhile ATM10 just keeps growing — now at 17.8 million downloads and still the default choice for groups who want everything in one pack.

Every pack below is available on ModReady with one-click install — pick a plan, select your pack, and you are playing in under two minutes. Looking for last month's list? See our April 2026 rankings.

The Rankings

1. All The Mods 10 (ATM10)

17.8 million downloads — NeoForge 1.21.1 — 500+ mods

The kitchen-sink king holds the top spot for the seventh month running, and the gap to second place keeps widening. ATM10 added another 800,000 downloads in May alone. With 500+ carefully-configured mods spanning tech, magic, exploration, and automation, it is still the most comprehensive modded Minecraft experience on offer. The ATM Star endgame remains the single best long-term goal in modded Minecraft. If you are not sure which pack to pick this month, pick ATM10.

RAM requirement: 10-12 GB

2. FTB StoneBlock 4 NEW

Released May 6, 2026 — NeoForge 1.21.1 — surface-to-the-stars progression

The latest StoneBlock iterates hard on the formula that made the series a community staple: you start embedded in stone, mine your way out, and build increasingly ambitious automation on the surface and beyond. StoneBlock 4 adds new progression gates, a fully reworked reward tree, and a late-game space-station mechanic that keeps the loop satisfying far longer than any previous entry. The reception has been the best of any modpack release in 2026 so far — it pulled significant player counts off ATM10 in its first two weeks.

RAM requirement: 6-8 GB

3. The Cursed Walking

11 May 2026 content drop — Forge 1.20.1 — survival horror

The defining survival-horror pack of 2026. The Cursed Walking rebuilds Minecraft as a zombie-apocalypse survival sim with scarce loot, hostile factions, real food and water mechanics, and an enemy AI that punishes loud groups. The May 11 content update added two new endgame regions, a faction reputation system, and a difficulty rebalance that made the early game even more dangerous. If you are running a group that wants tension instead of routine, this is the pack.

RAM requirement: 6-8 GB

4. Prominence II: Hasturian Era

11 May 2026 update — Fabric 1.20.1 — quest-driven RPG

Prominence II just shipped its largest patch ever on May 11, adding a new endgame storyline, two new biomes, and a major economy rework. The pack continues to have one of the most cohesive mod selections of anything on this list — every mod feels intentional, and the progression from early game to endgame is smooth in a way that most kitchen-sink packs never achieve. Fabric performance keeps it running well even on mid-range hardware.

RAM requirement: 6-8 GB

5. Homestead NEW

Modrinth's fastest-growing pack of 2026 — Fabric 1.21.1 — cottagecore farming

The big break-out pack of May. Homestead is built around cottagecore farming, exploration quests, and a deliberately relaxed pace — no time pressure, no horror mechanics, just slow-burn settlement-building with friends. Modrinth featured it on the front page in early May and downloads have not slowed since. It is the perfect pack for groups who want long, sociable sessions without combat anxiety. We published a full Homestead setup guide earlier this month.

RAM requirement: 6 GB

6. COBBLEVERSE

3.4 million downloads — Fabric 1.21.1

Still the definitive Cobblemon experience. COBBLEVERSE includes all 1,025 Pokemon, 93 Mega Evolutions, gyms, quests, and a progression system that feels like a proper Pokemon RPG layered on top of Minecraft. It has climbed steadily since launch and shows no signs of slowing down. Apex's exclusive partnership with the COBBLEVERSE team for hosting has been the only headwind — but ModReady runs COBBLEVERSE perfectly on any tier with 6 GB RAM or higher.

RAM requirement: 6-8 GB

7. DeceasedCraft

7.0 million downloads — Forge 1.20.1

Zombie apocalypse survival done right. DeceasedCraft turns Minecraft into a genuine horror experience with scavenging, base defense, and a difficulty curve that punishes carelessness. The mod selection is tight and focused — no bloat, just survival tension from the first night onward. The Cursed Walking has eaten some of its mindshare in May, but DeceasedCraft remains a community favourite for groups who want a slightly more vanilla-leaning horror experience.

RAM requirement: 6 GB

8. Better MC BMC4

16.7 million downloads — Forge 1.20.1

The best vanilla-plus experience in modded Minecraft. BMC4 enhances every aspect of the base game without overwhelming players with unfamiliar systems. Better worldgen, better combat, better building tools, better everything — all while still feeling like Minecraft. The default first pick for groups that want a richer game without a steep learning curve.

RAM requirement: 6 GB

9. ATMons

1.4 million downloads — NeoForge 1.21.1

The ATM team applied their kitchen-sink philosophy to Cobblemon. The result is exactly what you would expect: polished, feature-rich, and massive. ATMons combines Pokemon catching and battling with the full ATM mod ecosystem, giving players both progression paths simultaneously. It has held a million-plus download lead over every other Cobblemon spin-off since launch.

RAM requirement: 8 GB

10. RLCraft

29.0 million all-time downloads — Forge 1.12.2

Still the hardcore classic. RLCraft rewrites Minecraft's survival rules from the ground up — thirst, temperature, hostile mobs from the first second, and a leveling system that gates basic crafting. It runs on 1.12.2 and will likely never update, but new players keep discovering it. If you want to be humbled, RLCraft delivers. See our RLCraft setup guide for the exact requirements.

RAM requirement: 4-6 GB

Trends This Month

Quality Over Quantity

The May releases — StoneBlock 4, the Cursed Walking update, Prominence II patch, Homestead momentum — share a pattern: they are tightly curated packs with strong directorial vision, not kitchen-sink mod dumps. ATM10 remains the dominant kitchen-sink pack, but everything new in 2026 is leaning toward a focused experience instead of mod-count one-upmanship.

NeoForge Now Dominates the Top of the List

Five of the top ten run on NeoForge, three on Forge (all 1.20.1 legacy packs), and two on Fabric. Six months ago this list had only two NeoForge packs. The shift is complete: NeoForge is the default for new 1.21.x packs, and anything launched on Forge 1.20.1 will likely be the last of its kind.

The 1.20.1 Stable Branch Is Holding On

Despite the NeoForge / 1.21.x momentum, 1.20.1 packs continue to chart. DeceasedCraft, BMC4, The Cursed Walking, and Prominence II all sit on 1.20.1, and the bigger mods in those ecosystems have not finished migrating. Expect 1.20.1 to remain a viable target for new releases through 2026.

Survival Horror Is Now Its Own Category

The Cursed Walking and DeceasedCraft both holding spots in the top seven is no accident. Survival horror has graduated from niche to mainstream within modded Minecraft, and 2026 has produced enough specialist packs to make it a permanent category alongside tech, magic, and adventure.

Late-May Watchlist

A few packs did not crack the top ten, but they are worth watching if you run a community server and want something fresh before June:

  • MC Eternal 2 — The May 20 update gave this classic kitchen-sink sequel another burst of activity. It is not viral right now, but the fanbase is loyal and tends to create long-running servers.
  • Create RPG packs — Create-focused progression packs keep appearing, usually mixing automation with questing and light RPG systems. None have broken out like StoneBlock 4 yet, but the category is active.
  • Cozy Cobblemon packs — Smaller adventure packs built around Cobblemon, farming, and relaxed exploration are still gaining traction after Homestead's rise. These are good picks for casual groups that want less pressure than survival horror or ATM-style automation.

We will update the June rankings if any of these turn into a real breakout.

What This Means for Server Owners

RAM Requirements at a Glance

  • 4-6 GB: RLCraft
  • 6 GB: DeceasedCraft, Better MC BMC4, Homestead
  • 6-8 GB: COBBLEVERSE, Prominence II, FTB StoneBlock 4, The Cursed Walking
  • 8 GB: ATMons
  • 10-12 GB: ATM10

If you are choosing a plan for a group of friends, match your RAM to the pack. Underpowered servers cause lag spikes that no amount of optimization can fix. See our RAM calculator guide for sizing by player count.

Java Version Matters Too

NeoForge 1.21.x packs need Java 21. Legacy 1.20.1 packs and Forge 1.20.1 packs need Java 17. RLCraft is locked to Java 8. Mix them up and your server will refuse to start. We track every version requirement in our Minecraft Java version guide.

Loader Choice Matters

Your server's mod loader must match your modpack exactly. NeoForge packs will not run on Forge, and Fabric packs require Fabric. ModReady handles loader selection automatically when you pick a pack — but if you are configuring manually, double-check before launch. Our mod installation guide walks through every loader.
